Referring your patients to our hospital is simple, provided they meet the safe criteria for treatment…
In order to be referred to us for treatment, the patient must:
- have a Body Mass Index of 42 or less for general anaesthetic, or a BMI of 45 of less for local anaesthetic (under 160kg and able to transfer independently)
- be 16 years old or over
- not be pregnant
- not require complex rehabilitation or have a chronic disease that would require immediate post-operative care in an ITU
- not have sickle cell anaemia, renal failure, a high suspicion of cancer, or have had a cardiac arrest in the last six months
As long as the condition is managed, and the patient is stable upon admission for treatment, we can accept patients with:
- Angina
- Asthma
- Atrial Fibrillation
- Diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Dementia.

If the patient meets the above criteria, you can refer them to us via the NHS e-Referral Service (Choose and Book):
Please send all referrals via the NHS e-Referral Service. We are now paperless as per NHS England requirements and can only accept GP referrals via this method.
Radiology (ultrasound, MRI, X-ray)
All Radiology referrals should be sent via secure NHS email to: uksh-radiology@nhs.net.
Please detail the patient’s medical history and any other relevant information you feel it would be beneficial for our consultant to know.
Dental
If you are a dental practice and would like to refer a patient for oral surgery please send the referral form which you can download below to: dentalreferrals.careukegd@nhs.net.
Please ensure all dental referrals are accompanied by a radiograph of the associated tooth for extraction. Unfortunately we are unable to accept any referrals without imaging.
